2009 will be fun!
Changes are afoot.  Since RoboCupJunior Australia's support for this year began, this whole event is expanding to include Robot Soccer, Robot Rescue and still have Robot Dance events involved.

tiles.png The Rescue playing field is now available for purchase locally, but only the flat surfaces.  Those that include the bridges and are 3D in nature, require your own ingenuity to improvise.
Holonomic Wheels The IR sensors, compass sensors and IR soccer balls are available for purchase through us if you need, as we help to get from our partners who will import them for you.  Another piece of good news, there is a package of 4 omni-directional wheels with NXT building guide and sample program that is available through our partner as well.  This last package is definitely helpful for teams aspiring to explore the robot soccer game.
DJSUnity As for the robot dancing event, if you are keen to learn more about movie making, and how to become a DJ, our partners also have these ready for you.

Just contact for any information about the above.

FAQ
Q1. Are there any copyright issues when we pick certain musical pieces for our dance sequence?
A1. Since you are not making any money out of it, there are no problems.

Q2. Can we bring our own surface as a prop as our robot need to trace some black lines?
A2. Yes.

Q3. Do we need to rebuild our robot on the actual day?
A3. No, just bring your ready built robots, and be prepared to answer questions from the judges.  Be independent and build your own robots.  The Judges may ask you about details right while you are on stage.  Be confident.

Help for budding movie directors, (this article focuses on iMovie)

From our old friend Zong Ling (now studying to become a movie director?):

"There are a couple of websites which have iMovie tutorials. Those are probably the best way to learn iMovie. I am sure Youtube has some tutorials too.

The best thing about iMovie is that it is easy to learn, I think you'll be able to learn it within 45 minutes.

However, my advise to you is to explore iMovie at your own pace. You can learn the basics easily but if you were to explore it you would find a lot of tiny details that may allow you to enhance the footage, thus making your video more interesting.

Here are some of the websites that may help you in learning iMovie quickly:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WO4Abm_8FiE - for a walkthrough.
http://support.apple.com/manuals/#imovie - gives a detailed tutorial manual for iMovie.

Hope this helps!
Zong Ling"

RoboDance!
On 12 November 2008, there is a unique event coming up. Watch a professional DJ jamming with dancing robots together on stage!

The event is called RoboDance@iSHOP. It requires teams to submit a short video clip of their performance back in school, and ultimately get these clips displayed online and in iSHOP. The best ones will be invited to perform in public, in front of live audience and judges to clinch the grand award.

There is a whole Science and career path behind DJs in the music industry, way beyond the night scenes only. Participants will appreciate segments of music theory, how to match beats (bpm), ensuring octaves match, and of course learn to scratch discs and mix musical tracks.

Robots break dancing is already exciting enough, and further watching some students becoming DJs to add in music, plus throw in a few more human dancers, and you will have a great party, not just a competition.

Email to indicate your interest and get more information.

The RoboDance organiser reserves the right to amend or change any aspect of the competition.

RoboDance is a Media Development Authority, MDA, supported event.
Partner Schools: CHIJ Secondary (Toa Payoh) , Temasek Secondary
Main sponsor: iSHOP by Club 21
Sponsor: Elpmis International Pte Ltd
Organiser: RoboJunior Society (Singapore)
